About this piece

The wool is the winter undercoat of the Changthangi goat, combed out by hand each spring on the Tibetan plateau. It is then de-haired — the slow, expensive step where coarse guard hairs are separated out — before spinning.

This piece is 100% pashmina with no silk and no viscose. That matters: most "pashmina" on sale to visitors is viscose, which is cold, shiny and pills into felt within a season. Real pashmina has a matte surface, an uneven handspun-looking weave line, and no shine at all.

The natural colour is a warm off-white with faint grey in it. Fringe is hand-twisted.

Care & keeping

Hand wash cold with a mild wool detergent, or dry clean. Do not wring — press the water out flat and dry away from direct sun. Store folded with cedar rather than mothballs.
