About this piece
The oxidised finish is a chemical patina applied after chasing and then partly polished back, so the raised surfaces come up bright and the recesses stay dark. It is the finish that shows carved detail best.
Iconography here is standard and correct: the sword raised above the head, the utpala lotus supporting the text, the bodhisattva ornaments, the lotus base with a double row of petals.

Care & keeping
Wipe with a dry cloth. A darkening patina is normal on hand-raised bronze and many owners prefer it; if you want it bright, use a little tamarind paste or a proprietary brass polish and buff dry. Never put it in a dishwasher.
